About Us
In conjunction with the Office of Senior Victorians, COTA and the YMCA Victoria, is delivering the Active Ageing Network.
The Network aims to increase the number and range of sustainable physical activity programs for older people in Victoria, particularly people from disadvantaged groups and areas of disadvantage, including:

Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD)

Indigenous
-
Socially isolated
-
Economically or transport disadvantaged
-
People with a disability and carers
In order to achieve its aims, the Network will:

Provide information and resources to health and fitness practitioners and offer opportunities for networking, development and support

Give older adults a means to get active and to find a program or practitioner to best suit their needs.
Funding has been provided by the Department of Planning and Community Development for the YMCA and COTA (Vic) to:
- Develop and deliver a strategy to increase the number and capacity of evidence-based physical activity programs, including strength training programs for older people and particularly those who are disadvantaged
- Improve the capacity of the health and fitness sectors to deliver activity programs for older people
- Based on a needs analysis, in partnership with OSV, identify and recommend organisations to receive grants to develop strength training programs for older people or extend the reach of existing programs
- Improve access to affordable and accessible strength training programs for older people by supporting funded organisations
- Appoint an appropriately qualified organisation, in partnership with OSV, to conduct an evaluation of the effectiveness and outcomes of the Strength Training for Older Adults initiative.
