In partnership with Nagambie HealthCare, a 2011 Active Ageing Network (AAN) grant funded recipient, the AAN facilitated a community forum on strength training for older people on 6 December 2011. The forum was held at the Nagambie Senior Citizens Centre.

A comprehensive analysis by the Active Ageing Network (AAN) to identify local government areas of disadvantage with few or no strength training opportunities for older people has informed its second grant funding round. This analysis has again assisted the AAN to target its grant program to local government areas of need.

In 2006, the Women’s Friendship Group joined forces with the Manningham YMCA to develop a progressive resistance strength training class specific for the needs and abilities of its culturally and linguistically diverse members. One of the main aims of the Women’s Friendship exercise group is to encourage women from nationalities where exercise is not traditionally an integral cultural practice, to get moving.
